South Africa is at the epicentre of the HIV and Tuberculosis (TB) epidemics. The Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) undertakes clinical research to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as HIV, HIV-associated diseases, Tuberculosis (TB), HPV and Hepatitis B and C, and COVID-19. At CHRU, dedicated scientists and clinicians test the safety and efficacy of treatments, understand viruses, and improve the lives of those affected.

CHRU communities
Communities are central to the success of the studies undertaken by the Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU). Most clinical trial participants live close to CHRU’s four clinical research sites. Each site has a Community Advisory Board (CAB)
