Through the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Witwatersrand, the Wits Health Consortium (WHC) provides the governance and legal framework for the Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU).
Important services that the WHC provides to CHRU include:
All research is approved by the University of the Witwatersrand Human Research and Ethics Committee.
Internal and external audits are performed by reputable accounting firms, produced in line with clinical trial sponsor requirements. Project-specific audits are undertaken to meet the requirements of specific donors and sponsors.
Strong internal controls mitigate risks and manage deadlines and budgets. Insurance is taken out on projects to protect the interests of all relevant parties.
CHRU is part of the WITS HIV Research Group Clinical Trials Unit (WHRG CTU). As part of this institutional arrangement, CHRU is referred to as the WITS Helen Joseph Hospital (WITS HJH) Research Site.
