CHRU contributes to global infectious diseases research

The Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) is a division of the Wits Health Consortium, a wholly-owned company of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).

CHRU is affiliated to the Wits Faculty of Health Sciences Research Office

Our multidisciplinary team collaborates with international networks and sponsors to contribute to global research. CHRU studies have advanced national (South Africa’s National Department of Health) and international (World Health Organisation) treatment guidelines. 

With four clinical research sites across South Africa, all our studies comply with the highest ethical standards and regulations. 

Dynamic team of scientists and professionals

The Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) is home to a dynamic team of professionals who bring over two decades of clinical trial experience to the unit. They include scientists/principal investigators, medical officers, study coordinators, healthcare workers, pharmacists, counsellors and staff experienced in clinical trial operations - data management, quality assurance and regulatory.

The Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) is made up of different departments which together contribute to altering the HIV and TB epidemics in South Africa by supporting the outcome of our world class clinical trials.
